Janovec Jazz Band was founded in the early 2011, originally as a group of musicians, friends and former band-mates. Some of them met in this new jazz band after a long artistic break.

Iniciators of the whole project were the band-leader, guitarist Petr Janovec, and bass guitarist Jarda W. Kotek. The roots of their musical collaboration are dating back to the mid-nineties, when they played together in a well known Turnov Lédl Jazz Quintet, and later in an original jazz group Corcovado. Jarda W. Kotek also brought trumpeter Dušan Douša and drummer Jan Paulík. The band was joined by vocalist Tomáš Vyšohlíd soon after. The original formation played at a series of performances, especially in Mnichovo Hradiště and Turnov.

After some time Jarda Kotek and Jan Paulík decided to concentate their energy and focus fully on their home band Meckie Messer. Janovec Jazz Band was then joined by an experienced drummer Michal Pecka (former Lédl Jazz Quintet band-mate) and Jan Hanuš (e.g. Jazz Paluba). In 2014 comes another experienced player, saxophonist Vláďa Vlášek from Jablonec, and the band personally settled.

Since then, Janovec Jazz Band have often played in Mnichovo Hradiště, Turnov, Semily, Jablonec and other places.

Janovec Jazz Band has in its repertoire jazz standards by Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Cole Porter, George Gershwin, John Coltrane, Dave Brubeck, Duke Ellington and other great authors, but the band also enjoys playing blues songs.

Janovec Jazz Band has its own approach to interpretation of traditional compositions, with emphasis on original arrangements.
